www.deviantart.com/What is up with the Z?
Anyone digging or hating the new logo/brand?
I am not a fan. Maybe I just have to let it grow on me... but come on, nothing was wrong with their old logo. Maybe I'm a sucker for legacy, but nothing is going to best what they had established. At least you can read the acronym better in the old logo... DA was clearly visible, you knew where you were. This reminds me more of a clothing brand. I think I'm on a shopping website, not an art community. They better not get rid of their green next, or I'm losing all hope

The Z is purely them trying to be gangsta.

There is some controversy over the new logo. Though I think it has died down.
Some things that popped up (from what I briefly saw/read):
- They stole it.
- They ran a logo contest and when it was over the lawyers said no.
- It's stupid.
I was like: eww.

Wow.
It's similar in SHAPE but different in design. The "Z" is much more prominent in the original logo, which I think was its intent? I can see a resemblance but I wouldn't call it blatant copy, the shapes are too simple, enough playing around and you'll arrive to something similar. Maybe I'm just trying to give the DA staff some credit, but at the very least they should've done some research and asked the community.
Hold up - the new logo came from a logo contest?
Feb 9, 2015 12:09:53 GMT -5
Nope.
They ran a contest for a new logo without consulting the lawyers and the lawyers apparently said that they could not use the entries as the new logo. So basically the whole contest was kinda a waste.
At least that what I picked up.
We'll burn that bridge when we come to it.

It's terrible. I seriously thought it was a joke when I first saw it...
I'm not even sure what it's supposed to be!?

I honestly LOVE the new look. It has an edge that it didnt have before and it's about time the site got up to date.

The website itself I think is great - no knock downs on that from me. I am happy they are updating in that sense, I just wished the logo better represented themselves, its extremely vague and unidentifiable.
I could scroll in the DD section for hours. Often I do.

I don't mind the new logo but the watermark feature could be toned down just a bit. It's very visible and still very in your face and still obstructs the pictures it's put on (Hence why I tend to use my own watermark instead).
That's all I have to say ^.^

Late but: it's okay...Not the greatest, considering it's a graphics/artwork site.

The next best thing is Tumblr, and that's crowded with fandom art.

Lol but isn't that just like retweeeting or whatever of sh*t? It feels cheap to post stuff on there I think lol

Retweeting is Twitter, Reblogging is Tumblr, but it's pretty much the same thing. It is kind of cheap posting your artwork on Tumblr, but it's an easier way to set up an online portfolio and get commissions. Plus you can have the Ask feature turned on which is a more efficient way for people to contact the artist, and it's all on one site. Still don't like Tumblr though LOL

I disagree. Tumblr, similarly to dA, is run rampant with art theft and rebloggers who remove credits and artist comments.
Not just saying this as a biased Adobe employee, but Behance is probably the best choice for artists to host their portfolios rn. It's free, and you can pay some amount to basically turn your profile into a custom website. It looks better, works better, has more options to post content than Tumblr or dA. The biggest bonus to me is that it's a professional environment; anime fanart doesn't litter the front page. lmao

I hate tunblr though, didn't they invent the infinite scroll thong?

Ya, da is either that or photography, which isn't bad but it basically turned into Flickr where anyone with a camera could get a big following and everything else got drowned down In between
Cargo collective also has some nice stuff although I guess it's not like da or behance since you just use it for portfolio and not to find new art, directly anyway

I think so. Either they did or WordPress.
