I have been posting this up at every site that I'm a member of, because I usually have tons of people asking me how to install my templates.
I don't mind them asking, but I figured this certainly couldn't hurt.
- Download the zip file. Once you have it downloaded, you will need the program WinZip (or Windows does it for you also, though I seriously recommend getting WinZip if you don't have it). Double clicking on the downloaded file should open WinZip automatically, so then choose to extract the files within the zip. Make sure you have the "All files/folders in archive" selected, and also "Use folder names" must be selected as well. Choose an easy destination (such as your desktop), then extract.
- Now that you have the files saved on your computer, you will need to upload them to your website host. I, myself, use Photobucket.com for the simple fact that it uses the same directory to store all of your graphics in. You could also use ImageShack.com.....though it is not as simplistic (in my opinion) as Photobucket. Make sure if you use ImageShack you write down or keep track of the URLs to each image that you upload.
- With your images uploaded, it is now time to open up the global header/footer and main header/footer files that come in the download. Each one contains the codes that will be necessary to put the template up on your board. In my templates, I have tried to make it as easy as possible to instill the URLs to your graphics into each code. Simply scroll through the codes and anywhere that you see CAPITAL letters, pay attention and plug in the called for URL. However, in other's templates, you may have to search through the coding to see where to place stuff. Make sure not to delete any quote marks, and be certain that you are putting the right graphic into each place.
- Once you have placed all of your graphics' URLs into each code (global header/footer and main header/footer), all you need to do is copy and paste each code into the proper section of your board's headers/footers sections. With that finished, all that is left for you to do is copy and paste the URLs to the custom graphics section of your admin panel (Admin, Skins/Forum Colors, Customize Images).
- Finally, the only thing you should have left to do is put the color hex codes into their proper place (Admin, Skins/Forum Colors, Modify Skin). That's all there is to it!
I'm around and round we go
