Hello,
I'm working on a theme at
Neural Hook an RP about a bunch of people stuck in a VRMMO. I want to have design elements that put people in the mind of the menus and UI design we'd expect to see a few years in the future. I'm not a professional designer by any stretch—I've learned everything I know about Javascript from the past two weeks, and I came from a background of HTML4 and CSS2 so I had to relearn from the ground up. Even when I was in the thick of it, I wasn't particularly good. I like to think that I've improved since then.
To begin, I have no idea what I want out of a banner. I have a menu at the top, it expands when you click the circle icon. From there you can access navigation, with a few redundancies. I intend to move the nav-tree to the bottom of this full-screen menu, and perhaps make it larger, as though it were some kind of game's indication of the zone your character's at.
I'm after any and all suggestions, critique, or observations.
Thank you for your time.

so basically you want ideas on how to design it? hmm ilike what you have so far, maybe look at what
Smangii did here at SI it's pretty futuristic imo

Smangii is admin.
And yes, I can't say I haven't been looking liberally at SI. It's a lovely design. Lots of subtle work has gone into it.
And you're right, I suppose that's part of what I'm looking for. Just anything, really. Right now I'm stumped on a banner too—trying to figure out what I should do with everything.

When I think future I still think of highly robotic and mechanic looking things.
Maybe because of what movies depict, but if you want a future-ish feel then I would try to push the graphic side of things to give that feel.
www.deviantart.com/browse/all/designs/web/?order=9&q=futureThose things sort of make you think "future" because they share similar elements, if you'd notice. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you were looking for... but I'd definitely stick to a dark theme, high contrast, smaller text, very subtle gradients and lighting to make things appear as if they have a touchable surface, whether that be a transparent glass feel (think Minority Report) or a touch pad interface (think GPS systems in cars).
