I have no knowledge of drawing but damn that's awesome and you've improved a lot.
How did you learn all this?

My god that is an improvement if I've ever seen one...
Some things I noticed:
- I feel like the left's noses are too small, but the rights noses are too big.
- Is the left arm supposed to be crossed over her... I can't quite figure that out, but the right looks awesome. Hell yeah funky staff.
- shading/lighting from the blue orb on the right is BOMB. +1
- the sword shaft on the right looks a bit cardboardy but damn that is a straight sword... did you use a ruler?
- that texture in the bg is pretty dope, gonna be honest.
I love seeing stuff like this, thanks for sharing this is great
sounds like fun on a bun!

A freaking buttload of practice tbh. I joined tumblr around 2011 and got a lot of feedback from artists I admire and respect, and tbh part of the reason i'm physically fked up right now is because i literally would do like 16hr + days of art commissions + fun for me art seven days a week haha. TLDR hard work and practice /cry. All self taught though, just from trial / error / tutorials / practice, no formal training.

- Yeah the noses are kinda meh on both versions for me tbh? But everyone has different size noses! Let's go with that
- LMAO on the left one the right arm is supposed to be crossed over her chest with the hand resting in the crook of her elbow. Epic failure haha.
- :D THANK YOU ITS MY FAVOURITE PART
- Yeah I ran out of steam w/ the sword. The staff has an in-game reference, the
staff of parthalan which I simplified, but i didn't use a model on the sword because i was lazy haaaa. And no ruler technically, just made my brush size smaller and clicked on the starting point, held shift, then clicked on the end point. ;x
- I don't remember where I got the texture from, it's some sort of watercolour thing that I combined with another texture idk. :D
And no problem. I like doing stuff like this. I think I have another one, it's a little older tho. The picture on the left was also done in 2011, but the picture on the right I did 2015 sometime.

Wow... just wow these are entirely different styles, the before and afters
I could seriously see that last one in a book, or a published comic. It's awesome! I like the white outline around both images in the 3rd one you posted, it gives it a sticker effect which is really neat
How did you learn shading technique? Anything special you do there? I can tell you paid a great lot of attention to detail in that last one of your fiance, the shadows are spot-on.

Haha, yeah. I don't really know if I can say I have a set "style"... the folks that follow me on tumblr and devArt say that I have a distinctive one, but sometimes I'm a little more weeaboo trash than I am others -- sometimes more anime features, sometimes more western, idk.
I tend to go for celshading, which is usually what you see in comics and animation, mainly because it can be a lot easier. Or, at least, there are ways to phone it in without looking like you phoned it in haha. What I tend to do is group the flats in a folder and then put the shading on layer that's clipped to it, set to multiply with a lowered opacity. I rarely use black for shading because it tends to look too dark (though with every rule of thumb of course, there are exceptions). I tend to go with purples, reds, blues, whatever really fits the ambiance of the scene for me.
The most important thing to think about, and something I still have trouble doing, is the light source. Depending on where it is (visible or not) the shading and highlights will be in different places. I looked up a lot of tutorials to get a rough idea about how to do it, but ultimately I just wound up playing around to see what worked best for me.
I've got another one haha. It's been so long since I've posted art to a new audience I can't help myself. 2015 > 2011 (couldn't upload as an attachment because it was too big, sorry). This one (the one of the left) I went with a softer shading style so I used the celshading method I wrote about above and took the blur tool to make them a bit softer as necessary. Mostly done in Paint Tool Sai (which I love for drawing, it's not so bogged down as PS is), but I did put in a lighting effect filter on PS to help with the ambiance.

OK one more then I'll shut up for a bit haha.
Full link to the last one because I didn't phone in the background, but tyadahhhh. I forgot her shoulder freckles in the most recent one but oh well c'est la vie.
I feel like each progressive rendition gets gayer. For sh*ts and giggles I also made an improvement gif because I'm a sad sap w/ nothing better to doooo.

I'd show you how amazing I am at drawing, but if you saw my masterpieces, you'd want to kill yourself. So I won't put any of you through that.
Good stuff though
sorry mister West is gone

These are great, the Pokemon one is really really top notch stuff.
The first one, the woman's right hand (holding the cane) seems half-assed if im being frank, it looks a little roughly drawn, like her fingers are sorta too thick?

Thanks!
And yeah could be! Hands are the hardest thing for me to draw and I don't have a great track record with them ^^;'
