CSS Tutorial Part 1: Internal and External CSS
Written By BFG15000
In this tutorial I will explain the necessary parts of CSS. In "Part 2" I will explain the more about css. This is a basic tutorial.
CSS is an extremely powerful tool to make your website (or forum) look beautiful without too much HTML coding. CSS also allows everything to load faster. If you are wondering what CSS means, it means
Cascading
Style
Sheets. All of these tags and stuff that I will be talking about go withing your "head" tags
There are two ways to start off a CSS code. You may make an external CSS file or and internal CSS file within the HTML. I prefer external files because of the fact that they are easier to manage. On the other hand though, internal CSS coding is good for small CSS codes. To start an external CSS code, you have to type in:
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="filename.css">This an external CSS file link. You will need this to allow your external CSS file to work for your website. Now I will explain the individual parts in this code.
- linktype="text/css" This says that the link is to a CSS text file.
- rel="stylesheet" The rel (relationship) property specifies a relationship to the target.
- href="filename.css" This is the direct link to the file or the file url.
In an external CSS file, you do not use the style tags.
Now, internal CSS tags look like this:
<style></style>
These tags are put into your HTML, but they will not be put into an external CSS file. Then all of your CSS codes go into there.
That is it for Part 1. If you have any questions, please post them.

Thank you. A lot more tutorials are going to come from me. I have a suggestion though. Why don't you guys catagorize tutorials with color coding like what the people at SoCal did when they catagorized tutorials? That would be cool. Then you could see who actually makes the tutorials with the color.
