Swaps out all avatar pictures (or just default avatar pictures) with the first letter of the user. If enabled, makes the avatar a circle and randomly generates a color for that avatar.
Preview:Download:FirstLetterAvatars_1.1_bySmangii.pbp (1.7 KB)
Special Notes:You can enable this so it only applies to default avatars (like here on SI).
You can also style the avatars any which way you want with CSS.
I am sure there will be bugs with this... this took me too much finagling at 3am last night to make
But if you want to test it out and use this, please enjoy!

A thing!
Editing the CSS given the class winds up editing positioning & size for all avatars, which winds up with different views based on the size of the avatar. Currently moved the class 5px left and 5px top, which looks great in the mini icon displays but on the full icon displays is off centre. The same is true for designating a font size.
Instructions should include targeting specific avatar sizes imo.
(I've figured it out, but perhaps for an update in the plugin instructions in the UI)
EDIT: Request -- would it be possible to set bg colour by member group?

It would be so cool if it could be added that a custom field could change the color of the avatars for each specific member...

I love this!
I have some suggestions, Make it so we can disable or customize our own color combinations. Also allowing it to be different colors for each user without refreshing making the colors change.

Fantastic. It would be even better if the randomly generated colours are all muted earth / pastels. Some of those colours look a bit ... blegh

I'm having some trouble setting this up for some strange reason; In the plugin settings I have all enabled and the avatar image name as "default" (Which is the file name of the default avatar on the testing site). However when I have no avatar selected or use forum avatar in my profile it still shows the default avatar rather then changing it to so. Any idea why this might be happening?
